E3 2010 is over, and I finally have had a chance to recover and recharge my batteries and am ready to tell you all about it!
For those of you that don’t know what E3 is, it is The Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3 for short) and is a big convention displaying all the new games and technology coming out for the next year. All the big players are there Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo; plus a lot of developers and publishers, EA, Activision, Take 2, THQ, Capcom, plus a few smaller companies and distributors. This is an industry only event and is not open to the public, which is a total bummer. But on the plus side, I was able to go because of the store and also I was able to bring along a few friends & employees this time around for ummm…..research…Yeah, that’s it! Research.
We drove up to the Los Angeles Convention Center Tuesday morning, and got our badges and was stood around in the lobby and watched a bunch of trailers before they finally let us onto the show room floor. Once inside we were like kids in a candy store. All the newest video games that wouldn’t be out till Christmas time, at our fingertips! What to do and see first. We quickly headed over to the Disney booth since it was basically in front of us and played some of the new Tron game, and also Epic Mickey, then took a stroll over to see some of our distributor friends and talked shop a bit. Then it was off to play everything else under the sun.
Some of the better games that we saw and played was Marvel vs Capcom 3…all I can say is wow. I honestly don’t understand what they will be doing for the next 9-10 months since the game seemed so polished already. out of the 8 playable characters, the game seems amazingly finished and solid. Another great game that we played was Rock Band 3, which was my favorite. They have put so much effort into it making it the most Superior music game out there. When the game launches during Christmas time, there will be 2000 playable songs in the game. All the tracks previously downloaded are all compatible and the new keyboard will make this game super fun; but the thing that really catches my interest is the new “Pro” Mode and the ability to use the new Fender Squire guitar which is A REAL GUITAR! The game actually now teaches you how to play guitar! Since I really don’t have any musical talent, I am super stoked on this.
Another fun game we played was Vanquish, which is a game that could be best explained as Gears of War/Lost Planet/Jet Grind Radio/Wet, It’s made by Sega, so you know its actually gonna be a lot of real fun. The main character has jet rockets on his body so he slides all over the place while shooting huge enemies and taking cover. Look out for this game when it launches, it’ll be something you want to check out, believe me. We also got to check out the new Sonic games. Sonic Colors is a really fun Wii/DS game that is basically the best parts of Sonic Unleashed (3D worlds) and morphs it into side scrolling 2D as well. Pretty neat. Then Sonic 4, which I really liked but some of the other people I went with didn’t like it as much. It’s classic sonic, but with a 3D Sonic character and some auto attack stuff tacked on. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not that hard, but it takes some getting used to. There was a ton of other things we got to see and do, like Kinect and DC Universe Online, Fable III, Dead Rising, ect…
All in all it was a super fun experience and we got to meet a few celebrities (like Morgan from the show Chuck) and got to play with a ton of new games and accessories. If you have any other questions about the games that we played and the things we saw, please just let me know, or just come into the store, I’ll be more that happy to share!

Did you get a chance to play “Donkey Kong Country Returns?” That game looks amazing!
I did, it was really fun. It’s totally like the Donkey Kong Country games on SNES. Basically it’s 3D character models with side scrolling 2D levels.
There are parts where you get in the barrels and then are shot to the background of the screen and play far off in the distance. It’s a really neat way of doing bonus rooms. It’s like Super Paper Mario on Wii in a way, they did the same thing in that game.
